  • I am amazed at how God works...

    ...once again!

As many of you know, Kyra has been struggling with a few physical ailments over the past, well, couple of months.  She has had a nasty skin condition that kept getting worse and worse, until we went and got a steroid cream to take care of it about 2 weeks ago.  It worked wonders... for the 4 days that we were able to use it.   But because of it's potency that was all we were supposed to use it for.  As soon as the four days were done, we stopped using the cream and it came back pretty strongly.  The Doctor said to try it again for another 5 days -- of which we are on day 4, I believe, and it is STILL THERE.

She has also had a respiratory virus of sort for the past 3 days which was concerning us.  So, we called last night to ask about that.  The doctor returned our call about that this morning.  As we were hanging up, I said, "Oh, I have a question about Kyra's skin."  He replied with, "Oh, YOU'RE the one! I was just talking with my colleague who is a dermatologist over dinner last night, and she wanted to see your daughter.  I just couldn't remember her name to make her an appointment."    He then proceeded to tell me it would take a long time to get in to ANY dermatologist because they are so busy.  Then, he said, "Oh my goodness.  There is a cancellation TODAY with the Dr. I was discussing this with last night."

Anyhoo, all that to say, what a blessing!  The little blessings in life are SO big.  It amazes me how involved our OMNIPOTENT God wants to be, and how He shows us
    His love.

Just wanted to share how awesome He is with all of you...

  • Merry Christmas (A Householder Year in Review)

Merry Christmas from the Householders! We have had an amazing year! Many changes...

Matt & I both changed "vocations" to some extent this year. In December 07, I left the salon I was working at, in order to go back to school in January. After finding out that I was expecting (THE DAY I STARTED SCHOOL) and being extremely sick, I had to drop all of my on campus classes about a month into the semester. I continued with online classes in the spring and summer. In June, Ripon Grace hired a new youth pastor, and Matt switched to an Associate Pastor of Outreach and Evangelism role. One of the main responsibilities he has in his new role is IGNITE - a weekly Saturday Night Contemporary Worship Service. He gets to study with our Pastor on a weekly basis, as they preach on the same passage/topic. It has been neat for me to get to hear the message on Saturday and Sunday -- hearing the concept twice from 2 different perspectives helps to cement it in my mind for the week ahead. :)

We also have had 2 additions to our family this year. In March, my sister Laurel got married to an incredible guy! We have enjoyed having him in the family. (It was also great to have our family all together at the wedding. It had been a long time.)

The next addition is one I am particularly fond of. Our daughter Kyra Mailani was born at 7:48pm on September 11, after an extremely long labor and c-section. Everyone told me that there is no describing the love that you feel for your own child, and THEY AREN'T JOKING. It amazes me HOW MUCH I love this little one that I have only known for such a short while. She is a tremendous blessing to our lives. She just started laughing 2 nights ago, and melted both of our hearts, ONCE AGAIN! She is also doing everything in her power to talk to us, at almost every waking moment. She likes to "talk." :) We enjoyed getting to see all the family again when she was born. The Patterson clan came out in September, and the Householders in October. That was great.

As we look over the past year, we are incredibly grateful for all that God has done and the amazing ways He has blessed us. But pondering Christmas (as we decorated yesterday, and are now listening to Christmas music once again), I marvel once again, at the depth of God's love for me. He sent THE BEST Christmas gift, when He sent Jesus as a little baby, to grow up and die on the cross to take the punishment for my sins. I am eternally grateful...

May you have a blessed Christmas and a wonderful 2009!!

  • It's a geyser...

Ok, I have to admit, there are MANY changes in becoming a parent.  Some are so incredibly frustrating that you can choose to get mad, upset or worried -- or there's the flip-side.  You can laugh hysterically.  Last night we chose the latter.  :)

Kyra was eating, but acting very upset.  We couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, so I handed her off to Matt, for him to try to burp her.  All of a sudden, she started erupting like the most powerful geyser ever.  I have never seen so much throw up.  Matt & I just stared in amazement.  I ran to get a towel, but when I can back she started again.  After looking down at the final result of her eruption, we could help but just die laughing.  Matt Kyra, and the floor were soaked.  She seemed to feel much better afterwards -- I sure hope so.  :)  Anyhoo...  Here are some of the pictures from our experience last night.

  • My little girl is growing fast...

Looking at pictures from a few weeks ago, it is amazing how fast Kyra is growing.  At almost 11 pounds now, she is getting close to doubling her weight from when she came home from the hospital.  What can we say...  She likes to eat.  :)

Here are some pix from the last week.
